When it is my time
When I have crossed the final bridge
Of any attachment to this human form
I want you to come and bless it
To thank my body for all that it has offered me
To stroke my skin as it releases all warmth
To tenderly caress the old form as you would a beautiful fountain
That has long ago released any water of life
Yet still holds its perfect form
Although hardened and well-baked by the elements
I want you to stay with my body
Until your tears turn to laughter
Until your grief has truly had its way
Until you feel my Spirit about the room
Dancing freely, joyously, with no regrets.
Then you will know it is time to turn away
To attend to your new life
Changed by my passing
Yet no less rich.
I want you to know I am with you
Whenever you call.
I will stroke your hair
Or place my hand upon your shoulder
And turn you
Toward the sunrise. by Kathryn Lafond
